White Tower
The White Tower, Thessaloniki's most iconic historical monument, was erected by the Ottoman Turks in the late 15th century.
Known by various names over the centuries, including the Lion's Tower, the Blood Tower and the Janissary Tower, the White Tower got its current name in the late 19th century when one of the prisoners, Nathan Guidili, whitewashed it in exchange for his freedom in 1891.
The White Tower is circular, with a height of 34 meters and has 6 floors. Today functions as a museum for the history of the city and is the trademark of Thessaloniki. You should visit the interior of the Tower and discover a piece of the City's History on each floor. The view from the top of the White Tower will delight you, as it is panoramic both towards Thermaikos and Mount Olympus but also towards the Upper Town or Eastern Thessaloniki. At this point you will have the opportunity to take wonderful photos, with the city and the sea in the background.
